Cathy M. (Collins) Winch -Paralegal

I graduated from North County High School in 1974 and from Mineral Area College in 1976, with an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science.  I was a member of the Mineral Area College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Fraternity.

I was raised on a farm near Bonne Terre, Missouri, in Ste. Genevieve County. I have two brothers and one sister. My parents are Lee and Dale Collins. I married Larry Winch in 1975 and have lived in the Farmington area for 40 years. I have three grown sons and six grandchildren.

Upon graduating from college, I worked for another local law firm for four years until I was hired by Mr. Seufert in 1980.

I have worked for the Law Office of Kenneth A. Seufert, P.C., since 1980, as a Legal Assistant and/or Paralegal.  I was first employed as a Legal Assistant for Mr. Seufert when he was the Public Defender for the 23rd and 24th Judicial Circuits.

In 1983, Mr. Seufert went into the private practice of law, and I was employed as his Paralegal.

Presently, Mr. Seufert specializes in workers’ compensation and Chapter 7 Bankruptcy cases.   He selectively accepts personal injury cases.  I act as his Paralegal on Chapter 7 bankruptcies and personal injury cases.

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

As Mr. Seufert’s Paralegal, I assist him with Chapter 7 Bankruptcies.  Potential clients are provided a free initial consultation to discuss the possibility of filing a bankruptcy.  We explain what a Chapter 7 consists of and obtain the information necessary to determine if a potential client qualifies for a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.

We meet with approximately 150 potential bankruptcy clients each year.  After we are hired, I obtain from the client the information and records necessary to complete their petition, schedules and answer all required questions for filing their bankruptcy.   I work with the client and Mr. Seufert to insure the process goes smoothly and I am the first contact person on these matters.

As Mr. Seufert’s Paralegal, I am always available for clients to call and discuss the progress of their bankruptcy case.

Personal Injury and Wrongful Death

I am also Mr. Seufert’s paralegal and legal secretary assisting him with personal injury cases.  There are many types of personal injury cases, but Mr. Seufert handles only serious and complex motor vehicle accidents and wrongful death cases.  A personal injury claim resulting from a motor vehicle wreck is a claim against all responsible parties for damages as a result of injuries or death from that motor vehicle wreck.   This includes car accidents, truck accidents, tractor trailer accidents and motorcycle accidents.

When a potential client who has been injured in an accident first calls our office, I briefly discuss the details of the accident with them, including their injuries, medical treatment, insurance information, etc.  I then advise them that there is a free initial consultation to meet with Mr. Seufert and discuss their accident.  If they schedule an appointment to see Mr. Seufert, I tell them what they should bring to the appointment, which includes all insurance policies that cover the motor vehicles in their household, all insurance information on the responsible party to the accident, and any photographs of the vehicles, the accident scene, or their injuries.  I also tell them to bring in all medical documentation, including bills and records.  If it is available, they should bring a copy of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Accident Report.

All personal injury and wrongful death cases are handled on a contingency fee basis.  This means a client signs an Attorney-Client contract with our office stating the exact percentage that will be paid to the attorney when the case is settled.  All expenses required to prepare the case for settlement or trial are taken out of the settlement.  The client will not be required to pay anything until your case is settled.

As Mr. Seufert’s personal injury Paralegal, I order all medical records and medical bills, I obtain insurance information from the client, and I have contact with the claims adjusters.  I am also always available for clients to call or come into the office to discuss the status of their personal injury case.
